This machine came from Aaron B. in Detroit. If you ever get
a chance to meet him wear a helmet =D The machine is domestic
and was most likely in a bar. It was extremely dirty. I didn't
have room in my game room when I bought it so I stored it
in the warehouse at my office for about a year. Storing it
in the dry warehouse caused a problem, all of grease that
was used for the 5 diverters seized. I had a hell of a time
getting the diverters out of their sleeves. Once I did the
grease had turned into a rubber-like substance and took a
lot of elbow grease to clean. I did a very thorough shop job
on the machine and replaced the clear plastics. I flame polished
the ramps (I do this on all shop jobs) and they came out very
crystal clear. I rebuilt the left loom on the cannon, these
commonly go bad. When I powered up the machine everything
seemed fine. I noticed certain lamps came on two at a time.
I traced it down to a certain row in the driver board and
found that someone had installed the wrong transistor, The
transistor they installed basically made the row come on when
it should be off and vice-versa. I then installed the correct
driver transistor and everything worked great.
This is a game I had always wanted. I love Star Trek and love
pinball. The machine has a lot of great modes and even a hidden
one (poker). Shooting targets with the cannons, like T2, is
a lot of fun. My only complaint about the machine is that it's
a little on the easy side. Most people like the fact that the
Final Frontier is reachable, unlike Valinor (grrrrrrr). Great
game overall.
